EPA consulting White House over court ruling on small refinery exemption program: source

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is holding discussions with the White House on how to respond to a U.S. appeals court decision saying it must reconsider three waivers it gave to oil refineries exempting them from biofuel blending laws, a source familiar with the matter said on Friday. The EPA will announce a response to the decision by March 9, the source said. The court in late January vacated the EPA orders granting the exemptions to the three refineries and sent the issue back to the EPA for further action. Market participants are awaiting clarity on how the EPA will address the court’s ruling.
